| Metz Camfield
Media Relations Assistant
After a year as a student worker in the University of Kentucky media relations office, where he worked with UK's nationally ranked men's basketball team, Metz Camfield enters his first year as a media relations assistant in the UK media relations office.
Camfield, a native of Crozet, Va., will handle Kentucky's media relations efforts for men's golf, cross country and track and field, while also serving as an assistant contact for UK's nationally ranked women's basketball team. Camfield will also assist Kentucky's director of new media with daily updates to UK Athletics' official blog, Cat Scratches.
Last year as a student worker, Camfield served as UK's primary contact for women's golf, women's tennis, and men's and women's swimming and diving, while also serving as an assistant contact for men's basketball. With the men's basketball team, Camfield helped write press releases, coordinate interviews with national and local media members, edit and write copy for the media guide, and travel with the team to select road games, including all postseason games.
Before joining the UK media relations office in August 2010, Camfield worked as an assistant sports editor for UK's daily student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel. With the Kernel, Camfield was the co-author of "Blue is Back," a book chronicling the 2009-10 Kentucky men's basketball season, while also helping to design, lay out and develop story ideas for the staff on a daily basis.
While at the Kernel, Camfield won several awards, including second place for the Best Sports Feature by the Kentucky Press Association and the Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association in 2010. In 2011, one of Camfield's game stories was given honorable mention status for Best Sports Game Story by the Kentucky Intercollegiate Press Association.
Camfield recently graduated from the University of Kentucky in May 2011 with a bachelor's degree in journalism while minoring in business.
Metz, whose full name is Steven Metzger Camfield, is the son of Steve and Monica Camfield. He has one brother, Brian, who studied sports management and earned his undergraduate degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and his graduate degree at South Carolina.
