Marquette’s Krystal Ellis set a new record for points by a UK opponent in the WNIT with a career-high 40 points in the game. Since beginning SEC play in January, the Wildcats are 10-3 when the game is decided by 10 or fewer points and 7-2 when the game is decided by five or fewer points. Seven of the last eight games have been decided by 10 points or less. Kentucky trailed by five, 36-31, at the break. UK’s record when trailing at the half is now 2-12. The Cats held the Dukes to 35 percent (20-of-58) shooting from the floor in the game. Senior guard Samantha Mahoney scored 15 points to increase her career total to 1,601 to move up a spot and finish third on UK’s all-time scoring list. Mahoney started her squad-high 78th consecutive game. Mahoney reached double figures for the third straight game and the 22nd time this year with 15 points on the afternoon. She has scored 10 or more points in three straight games and in six of the last eight contests. Senior center Sarah Elliott finished with four points and ended her UK career at No. 6 on the all-time scoring list. She finishes with 1,502 career points. Elliott had four rebounds in the game to become just the fourth Wildcat in school history to chart 800 or more rebounds. She ranks No. 4 on UK’s all-time rebounding list with 800 career boards. Elliott’s five blocked shots tied a season high and were one shy of her career best. The senior center also had five blocks in the Wildcats’ third-round win over James Madison on Wednesday night. She ends her career with a UK all-time best of 195 blocked shots. Elliott set a new single-season record with 56 blocked shots. She eclipsed the previous record of 53 set by Valerie Still during the 1980-81 season. Senior Chelsea Chowning tied a season and career-high with four steals. Freshman Victoria Dunlap finished with her third career double-double after charting 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Seniors Sarah Elliott and Samantha Mahoney played in a school-record 132 career games.
