Kentucky Cheerleaders Invite Fans to View Practice



The University of Kentucky cheerleading squad invites Wildcat fans to attend practice on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Seaton Center on the UK campus. This will be the squad's final practice in Lexington before the national championship competition. Warm-ups begin at 6 p.m. and the cheerleaders will go through their competition routine at 7 p.m. The squad will leave Friday morning for Orlando, Fla., site of the 2004 Universal Cheerleaders Association championship. The team will practice on Saturday, then compete for the title on Sunday. The UK cheerleaders are an unprecedented 12-time national champions in the UCA competition, including an eight-year title run from 1995-2002, and have been runners-up on five occasions, including 2003. The cheerleaders are coached by Jomo Thompson and the team advisor is T. Lynn Williamson. Sixteen cheerleaders will compete at the event. The UK mascots, Wildcat and Scratch, will compete in the mascot division.
