Cheerleaders, Dance Team Invite Media, Fans to View Practice
The University of Kentucky Cheerleaders and Dance Team invite media and Wildcat fans to attend their practice events on Thursday night.
This will be both squads’ final practices in Lexington before the national championship competition. The cheerleaders will practice at the Seaton Center on Complex Drive on the UK campus. Warmups begin Thursday at 6:15 p.m. and the squad will go through its competition routine at 7 p.m.
The Dance Team will practice its competition routine at 8:30 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
The Cheerleaders and Dance Team will leave Friday for Orlando, Fla., the site of the 2005 Universal Cheerleaders Association championships. The squads will practice on Saturday, then compete for the titles on Sunday.
The Kentucky cheerleaders have won an unprecedented 13 national championships in the UCA competition, including the 2004 title, and have been runners-up on five occasions. UK will be represented by 16 cheerleaders, coached by Jomo Thompson. The team advisor is T. Lynn Williamson.
The Dance Team will send 16 performers to compete in two events in Orlando. Coached by Cathy Agent, the team won fourth place last year at the national competition sponsored by the United Spirit Association. The Dancers have finished in the nation’s top five in four of the last five years at the USA event. The team also will enter the USA competition later in the year.
