Adachi and Sutjiadi Ousted From NCAA Doubles Championship

by Karlie Kinneer
ATHENS, Ga. – Kentucky’s sixth-ranked duo of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi saw its NCAA Doubles Championship run come to a close on Saturday afternoon, falling to Ohio State’s Francesca Di Lorenzo and Miho Kowase in straight sets.

Kentucky fell behind early as the Buckeyes took a commanding 4-1 lead early in the first set. Although Adachi and Sutjiadi were able to win two more games in the set, Di Lorenzo and Kowase took the stanza, 6-3.

Ohio State continued its hot streak to open the second set, once again getting out to a 3-1 advantage. With their backs against the wall, the Wildcats came back to make it five all before the Buckeyes went on to win the next two games and seal the victory.

Adachi and Sutjiadi close the 2017 season with a 22-10 overall record. Despite their elimination from the field, the Kentucky pair becomes the first duo to garner All-America honors in back-to-back seasons since Carolina Mayorga and Sarah Witten accomplished the feat in 2001 and 2002.
