Letter to BBN from Kyle Wiltjer

The following is a letter from Kyle Wiltjer to the Big Blue Nation. Read John Calipari's letter here.

Big Blue Nation,

I would like to take this moment to thank Coach Cal, the entire staff, my teammates and the BBN for a memorable two years thus far.

Heading into college my dream was to win a National Championship and compete with and play against the best players in the country. Without a doubt, I accomplished both of these goals in my two years at Kentucky.  Now as I head into my junior year, I recognize that my new and adjusted goals require me to make some very difficult upcoming decisions.  Coach Cal has been everything I expected him to be, as I have felt very comfortable talking with him about my situation.  I cannot stress enough how supportive Coach has been during this period. He is more than a coach to me, and for that I am forever grateful.

During this next year, I will be working on my body so that I am able to compete the way I know I can.  I want to find a situation that will help me do this as well as play a more significant role, wherever that may be. Even though I might physically leave Lexington, I will never forget the support and kindness that everyone has shown my family and me.  It is difficult to put into words how hard it is to possibly leave BBN, yet I am confident that whatever I choose, I will give it my all. Regardless, I will always bleed blue and will never forget these amazing last two years at Kentucky.

Thank You,

Kyle Wiltjer

Why would you leave a top notch program?you were a four year player anyways, good luck wherever you may go but it doesn't get any better than UK go blue we'll be just fine!!

You will dearly missed, Kyle and wish only the very best for you. Continue to Bleed Blue!

Kyle,
We want you to stay. We need you. Having said that, you have to do what you think is best - yet you will always be a Wildcat to me. My son is an athlete and he has had to make choices about teams and goals along the way. I get it. I empathize but, dang, I will miss you and I really hope you can find what you need here. In any even, all the best to you, forever.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I honestly teared up reading that. Kyle you are very special and have it in you to outplay anyone on this team. Please don't leave.

Young man, you will be sorely missed. You are a champion of champions. You have put up with much more than you got in the long run. You are a true blue Wildcat,no matter where you go.

Good luck in your future with whatever your decision may be. We have lost a player who takes everything handed out to him with such grace and never seems to complain about anything.

God Bless and be with you in all future endeavors.

This stinks-- but honestly will still be #1 without him and some of these younger guys are just better athletes.

Kyle.. This is Josh again from above. You mean so much to me man, how could you do this to me? Watching you these past two seasons really changed my life. I feel like I've known you my whole life over these past two seasons please stay in it.

Dear Kyle,
Thank you for the memories! We at BBN are so glad you got to help take us back to championship form where we belong. As you may leave us, though we wish you would stay, go with the ring you earned and know it helped to endure you to our hearts forever. Also know that wherever life takes you, you'll never find another group of fans as crazy about their players as we are and always will be. God Bless you and your family and thanks to them for sharing you with the BBN!
Debi Parsons and Family.

Once a cat, always a cat! I, for one will ALWAYS be cheering for you!

Wow Kyle I had hoped you would stay in Lexington until you graduated or went pro, whichever came first. I really think you're just a smidgen away from developing a really dominating game. Your ability to shoot from the outside and your increasing ability to play a significant inside role are both stellar cogs of the UK machine. I realize the competition is very tough right now but that may only be for one year. I'm very confident that you can be a top level player. Playing at UK can be tough for sure. There is a lot of talent there. But you are part of that talent and I hope you stay. I wish you the best whatever you choose though.

I'm so sorry to see you go, Kyle. But, I understand that you need to do what's best for you. I just want you to know how much I appreciate you taking a moment to pose for a pic with my granddaughter a few weeks ago at the mall. Your buddy had his face covered & kept on walking, but you were more than willing oblige & made a 14 year old girl's day. BTW, she's a basketball player who proudly wears the number 33. I want to wish you the best of luck with the remainder of you college career & I'll be looking for you in the NBA!

After reading your letter I completely understand, but I hope you decide to stay. I really think next year you will have plenty of opportunities to shine and take your place as a leader of the team. Whatever you choose I wish you the best and I know BBN feels the same way. I hope you decide to stay and I look forward to seeing you succeed in all aspects of life no matter what you decide.

I understand your decision to look around and see if you can find a program that will be a better fit for your remaining two years of eligibility. It has been fun watching to mature to this point and like Coach Cal, I believe that I will see you playing at the next level in the future. Once you gain the physical strength necessary for the pro game and its grueling schedule, the sky will be the limit for you. While you're looking, I hope you give the Murray State Racers at least a glance. We take basketball seriously around here and we play some pretty good basketball in the OVC. You would be a star here and this member of BBN would welcome a young man of your character to our University. Regardless, I wish you the best of everything IF you do indeed leave Kentucky.

Kyle, if you transfer you have to sit out a year, why not redshirt and stay at UK. With another year of playing with top talent you can have two more years with the BBN

Kyle.....If you have decided to leave the KY program I wish you the best. I hate to see you leave but you have to do what you think is best for you. As a Junior your leadership is a big part of this team and it will be missed. Cherish that Championship ring you have and remember you could be a Big part of another one.

I am really sorry to see you leave KY. Your intelligence and integrity will be sorely missed. I wish you the best in your endeavors and KY is missing out on watching you grow and become the best player you can be. I always had a special place in my KY heart for you as my son's middle name is Kyle and seemed like such a wonderful young man. We were honored to have you for the two years you were here. Just wish you would reconsider, but we all have to follow the path that is best for us! Take care and be strong!

Kyle I sure wish you would stay. I would wish you the best of course whatever you choose but man I love to watch you play and shoot those 3`s every time we are in a big game and need points I am like put Kyle in coach :) seriously and you are a class act a leader now on and off the court I wish you would get more playing time. I am positive that with the twins breaking down defenses that you would rain from kick outs this season, Sure hope you stay.

If you do leave the BBN will miss you but wish you nothing but the very best, I'm sure I speak for most by saying we want you back. Thank you for all you've accomplished and no matter what you we always be a part of the BIG BLUE NATION family!!! God Bless and watch over you and your family Kyle.

Kyle, redshirt this next year, build your body up [remember Josh H.] then play out with UK. After that you can probably play pro ball if you want to. You will be stronger and wiser. God bless what ever your choices.
