With 15 non-conference games down and 16 in the Southeastern Conference, the regular season for Kentucky men's basketball is (incredibly) for all intents and purposes half over.

Since it is essentially the midpoint, and Dick Vitale of ESPN each offered some picks from the first half and predictions for the next one and beyond. Here are some highlights:

National writers Jeff Goodman, Gary Parrish, Jeff Borzello and Matt Norlander each made choices across 11 different categories. Click here for a complete list, but here are the spots where UK came up:

National champion - Goodman, Parrish and Norlander all predicted UK would cut down the nets in New Orleans this season.
Final Four - All four writers picked the Wildcats to advance to the Final Four.
All-Americans - Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was named first team All America by Parrish, Goodman and Borzello.
Freshman of the Year - Goodman picked Davis as his Freshman of the Year while Parrish and Borzello picked Kidd-Gilchrist.

Dick Vitale chose his top six candidates for Player of the Year, "Diaper Dandy" and Coach of the Year. Here is where the Cats fit in:

Player of the Year - Davis is tabbed the No. 5 candidate.
"Diaper Dandy" - Davis and Kidd-Gilchrist are first and second, respectively

Finally, released its latest list for the top 10 candidates for Player of the Year on Thursday. Following his 24-point, 19-rebound effort in a 69-62 win over Louisville, Kidd-Gilchrist vaulted from outside the top 10 all the way to No. 4. Davis held steady at No. 5.
