Morehouse game day links

Due to UK Hoops' exhibition matchup with Coker College on Sunday (the Cats won 86-44), I was unable to attend media availability in preparation for men's basketball's game against Morehouse College on Monday. Since I can't provide you with the usual video of John Calipari and players as well as a story, I thought I'd point you toward a few of the stories from those who were there:

Shot-blocking Davis adjusting to physical play of college ball (David Jackson, CoachCal.com)

Just one exhibition game into this young season, it's evident that Davis will be a force on the defensive side unlike anything the program has seen in a long time (many believe he'll contest the single-season mark of 83 held by Andre Riddick and Melvin Turpin). His length and athleticism will help erase defensive mistakes and allow the rest of the team to apply a little more on-ball pressure.

But for as gifted as Davis is defensively, he's still adjusting to the physicality of college basketball on the offensive end. Part of Davis' game that he and Coach Calipari would both like to see improve is his toughness.

Also, here is a video of Coach Cal's comments from practice at Rupp Arena. Click this link to see videos of Anthony Davis and Eloy Vargas as well.

Calipari wants Cats to get tougher (Jerry Tipton, Lexington Herald-Leader)

Kentucky Coach John Calipari ordered a lid put on the basket in recent practices. He also had a treadmill returned to courtside.

His objective? To begin toughening up the Cats.

"We felt like, against Transylvania, they out-toughed us a little bit," sophomore guard Jarrod Polson said Sunday.

Calipari will get creative with Davis' offensive game (Brett Dawson, CatsIllustrated.com)

Ask Anthony Davis to assess his exhibition opener as a Kentucky basketball player, and the freshman forward will tell you he's pretty pleased with his defensive effort.

Offense is another story, and Davis is working to give that one a happier ending.

The Wildcats will play their second exhibition game Monday at Rupp Arena against Morehouse, and Davis - who had eight blocks and eight rebounds but only six points in last Wednesday's win against Transylvania - has focused on shoring up his offensive game.

"On the offensive end, I think I struggled a little bit (against Transy)," Davis said. "I was kind of nervous for my first game."
