Shively Outdoor Track

The University of Kentucky Shively Track has been a fixture on the UK campus since 1959, when the site was developed and later named in honor of former Director of Athletics Bernie Shively.

Shively was instrumental in the development of what would become a synthetic running track when he built one of the first rubberized tracks in the world at UK. Since 1959, the nine-lane track has undergone several major renovations and upgrades. And there are plans for another upgrade in the near future.

The current facility consists of a 400-meter, blue polyurethane track with dual sets of runways for the horizontal jumps and four separate throwing areas. The Shively Track is wired for the state-of-the-art computerized Finish Lynx Meet Management System and seating for 3,000 spectators.

Since its construction, the track has been the site of the 1971, 1984 and 1996 Southeastern Conference Track and Field Championships. It is also home to the Kentucky High School State Championships, the Bluegrass State Games and mulitple USATF and AAU age-group competitions.
